STC-Montreal is the the Montreal chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. Its mission is to promote the profession and practice of technical communication.
STC-Montreal will likely be closed down by the end of February, 2012. The members of STC-Montreal have voted to create a local organization independent from STC. This site exists to pick up the pieces.
After STC-Montreal 
I would be interested in knowing how many Montreal STC members are interested in keeping it going as opposed to those how have already moved on? The STC is making an effort to keep the chapter here but it would be interesting if we had a factual figure.

Good question Poppy! Admittedly at this point, they haven`t dangled any carrots in front of us but they have taken a direct approach in recruiting officers to maintain the chapter. The question now is whether or not the existing STC members want to keep the chapter or move on. Three officers and no other members would technically keep the chapter open but to what end? A slower death?

Ann and Ellie, that question was what was on the agenda at the meeting on January 30th. The members who showed up at that meeting have voted to keep the chapter going but to “move on” from STC. For those who are/where eager to “save the chapter”, are/were “interested in maintaining the Montreal chapter of the STC” and keeping it within the confines of STC, the time to act was on January 30th. It may already be too late now.
However, for those who want to keep the community that was STC Montreal alive and to help make it thrive, it is not too late. Get involved. Speak up. Volunteer a bit of your time. Participate and make a difference!
My apologies. The meeting I mentioned above actually took place on January 31st. January 30th was the day of the family emergency that prevented me from attending the meeting.

STC Montreal as an affiliate of STC International no longer exists. The official vote on January 31, 2012 of chapter members to sever the relationship was ratified and approved by the chapter’s Executive Council at its final meeting. In addition, an official letter signed by the Executive Council has been transmitted by registered mail to Steve Skojec at STC’s office in Virgina informing STC of the ratification of this vote.
If STC members wish to have a chapter presence in Montreal, they must elect new officers, register a new organization as a nonprofit with Révénue Québec, adopt new bylaws, and execute a new international affiliation agreement with STC. Steve Skojec at STC’s office has stated that his office is willing to assist members with these tasks if they wish to form such a group.
